We would like to inform you that the next MDT assessment clinic for traumatic amputees is going to be on 12th November 2019 at The London Clinic (5 Devonshire Place, London W1G 6HL)
Osseointegration (direct skeletal fixation) is a method for anchoring the prosthetic limb directly to the bone thus avoiding the use of a conventional socket and significantly improving the quality of life for individuals with amputations. Osseointegration was first developed for dental implants by Prof. PI. Brånemark in 1952. It was developed for use in amputees in mid 1970’s and licensed by 1990 following several successful clinical trials. Osseointegration was first commercialised by Integrum (OPRA implant) in 1998. Any adult amputee would benefit from Osseointegration, in particular amputees due to trauma or cancer and who have rehabilitation problems with, or cannot use, a conventional socket prosthesis.
